NAGALAND
Kohima, the capital of the state of Nagaland,
is perched at 1444.12 meters above sea level. Kohima enjoys a temperate
climate throughout the year.It is a hill station in its own right
and has its incomparable charms that other hill stations do not
offer.
Kohima is the cosmopolitian headquarters of
15 major tribes. The distinctive character and identity of each
tribe in terms of traditions, custom, language and dress is clearly
discernible to a visitor. Many are visibly amazed by this contrast.
BEST TIME TO VlSlT
The winter months, i.e. October to April is generally
recommended as the best time to visit Nagaland. The weather during
this period is quite pleasant and one can move around in comfort.
The summer months, from May to September is best left out due to
the onset of monsoon.
HOW TO REACH
Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland, is connected by air,
rail and road with the rest of the country. It is only 74 kms to
Kohima, the State capital from, Dimapur. We would however, suggest
you fly into Guwahati which is well connected to Delhi and Calcutta.
WHAT TO BRlNG
It is advisable to travel light. During winter months Kohima is quite
cold, temparature dropping to single digit. Woolen garments, wind-cheater,
woolen cap, gloves and woolen socks will be handy, particularly
after sunset. During the day weather is quite pleasant.
ENTRY
FORMALITIES
Indian Tourist visiting Nagaland require to obtain Inner Line Permits
issued by the Deputy Resident Commissioner at Nagaland House, Delhi,
Calcutta and Assistant Resident Commissioner, Shillong. Jungle Travels
will obtain such permits on your behalf. Jungle Travels India is
recognised by the Nagaland Government as Tour Operator.
All foreign tourists desiring to visit Nagaland require Restricted
Area Permits which can be obtained from all Indian Missions abroad
or the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, South Block,
New Delhi. Jungle Travels will assist you in obtaining such RAP.
Please communicate with us at least three months prior to your proposed
visit to obtain RAP and arrange your tour. Please note that to acquire
such permits a minimum of 4 members is essential.

NAGALAND
- THE FABLED LAND
DIB-MON-MOKOKCHUNG-TOUPHEMA-KOHIMA-DIMAPUR
(10 NIGHTS/11DAYS)
Day
01 : Arrive Dibrugarh By Air
Meet
and assist by Jungle Travels staff. Transfer to a tea guest house.
Afternoon visit a tea garden. The manager of the garden will explain
tea plantation and answer your querries. Evening local market. Dinner
and overnight.
Day
02 : DIBRUGARH – MON
After breakfast drive to Mon in Nagaland. This district is inhabited
by the KONYAK TRIBE with a sizable number of AO Nagas. Check into
Circuit House on arrival. In the afternoon visit CHUI village. Come
back to Mon. Dinner and overnight.
Day
03 :
VILLAGES
AROUND MON
Today after breakfast we will visit TOTOK. Here people are seen in
ethnic wears including beads and ear rings. We will now proceed
to WAKCHING and WANCHING villages. Lunch on the way. Come back to
Mon. Dinner and overnight.
Day 04 : LONGWA VILLAGE
After early breakfast we will be going to LONGWA village on the India
- Burma border. True tradition is seen here where people are still
not touched by modern ways. Lunch at the village. Meet village folk,
see their way of life. Return to Mon in the evening. Dinner and
overnight.
Day 05 : MON - MOKOKCHUNG
We will be going to Mokokchung today in north-central Nagaland. This
district is inhabited by the AO TRIBE. On reaching Mokokchung check
into Circuit House. Dinner and overnight.
Day 06 : AO VILLAGES
After
breakfast we will drive to Motumchuket village. Meet village folk,
see their customs. In the afternoon go to UNGMA village south of
Mokokchung. Meet more village folk, see their custom. Return to
the lodge. Dinner and overnight.
Day
07 : MOKOKCHUNG - TOUPHEMA
After
breakfast set off for Longkhum village. Met by the village head,
we will be escorted by him through the village. Enjoy Ao dance while
you are having your lunch. From here we will drive to Touphema village
5 hours away. On arrival check into neatly appointed huts built
in the Angami Naga style. Dinner and overnight.
Day
08 : TOUPHEMA - KOHIMA
Morning TOUPHEMA village and then proceed to Kohima. Check into
Hotel. Afternoon visit museum, market. Return to the hotel. Dinner
and overnight.
Day 09 : KHONOMA VILLAGE
After
breakfast today we drive to Khonoma village, a place renowned for
its valour and courage. The Khonoma gate tells the story of British
infiltration into Naga hills. Afternoon, visit the famous war cemetery,
a war memorial of the soldiers of the Allied forces killed during
World War II. Come back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day
10 : ANGAMI VILLAGES
We
will be visiting the southern villages inhabited by the Angami tribe.
See their traditional way of life. Return to the hotel. Enjoy an
Angami dance while you have your dinner. Overnight.
